The Crucifixion Continues

Dear readers, my soul is at a constant state of unrest these days as I scroll through my news feed  filled with stories of Christian brethren being attacked, overpowered, denied their basic rights to worship the living God, ridiculed for their faith, tortured, and even killed.

I see a range of ways our faith is being challenged around the world. The sad part is that while the world tries to bring everyone together by trying to “respect and treat equally” all religions of the world, Christianity is being pushed off the cliff to make room for everyone else.

We Christians seem to be under attack constantly just for merely practicing our religion or believing in it. People are quick to take offense against such a peaceful group of people, and yet we still do not cause trouble or commotion by fighting back.

Our Master has told us to show the other cheek to anyone trying to hurt us, and that is what I feel the Christian community has been adhering to mostly with the recent rise in Christian persecution.

“But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” (Matthew 5:39)

Children and women in many middle-eastern countries are being tortured and even killed because of the irrational hatred people have towards the true God that they serve. And while these stories of persecution bring tears to my eyes, I turn back to domestic news and sadly I get even more disappointed to see the amount of stories featuring anti-christian mentalities oppressing people who place faith in God.

Why is it that even in such a free and changing generation, Christians are being attacked in various ways and being hated for their practice of religion which is a right granted to every human nevertheless? So many times people get offended just for the fact that a pastor preached something that they may not have agreed with. But pastors have been preaching the truth for ages, and yet now people are starting to react to their sermons and trying to get them into trouble for teaching what is in the Bible!?

Sharing the gospel these days is becoming a dangerous pursuit, I believe. You can never know who may get offended and how that may lead to trouble for you. Even trying to read the Bible in public, or praying before some event or game or in school, or EVEN wishing someone a “merry Christmas” is apparently becoming offensive to people out there because it has to do the Christ! Why!? This is really sad. Some Christian children are being forced to learn about about evolution and other such ideologies which are theories that a conservative Christian family would not want their child to grow up learning.

But if someone proposes that Christianity also be taught or emphasized in schools, it becomes an issue and everyone treats it like a terrible idea. Of course, the preaching of the cross is foolishness to society today.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified mercilessly 2000 years ago for speaking nothing but the truth. Today, the persecution continues on the Church and is getting worse.

But while such news makes our hearts sorrow for the plight of our own brethren around the world and the plight of ourselves to come perhaps, this does give us hope in the coming of our Lord Jesus. He did warn us that such terrible persecution would be a sign of the imminent return of the Son of God. He said regarding the end times:

“Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.” (Matthew 24:9)

“But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” (Matthew 24:13)

As Children of God, we will in our lifetime have to suffer some form of persecution inevitably, be it against us physically, mentally, or socially.

Let us watch the skies for His return and prepare ourselves spiritually for the coming spiritual battle of the end times as well as for His return, so that we may be counted worthy of entering the kingdom of God.

This is a time for us to hold on to our faith stronger than ever and to keep spreading the gospel of goodness and peace as much as possible!!! Our Master is the Light of the world, and we are sparks of that light! Therefore we must shine to the best of our abilities even despite all the hardships we may have to face!

God bless you all my dear brothers and sisters. If you are in a country facing persecution for your faith, or in danger of facing persecution, know that you are being prayed for constantly, and that Jesus Christ is with you and His power shall accompany you wherever you go!!!

God bless!
